済井出（スムイデ）のアコウ　（Akou Tree of Sumuide）

　済井出公民館の前庭（馬場跡）に面する農村公園の隣に生育している。
　当樹木はゴバン型済井出村の完成を祝って植栽された記念木で、傘状に広がる樹冠は170㎡に達し、巨大な緑陰は地域の人の憩いの場となっている。また、旧暦4月15日前後のアブシバレーの日には、樹下で沖縄角力大会が行われるなど、地域の行事の場としても親しまれている。5本に分岐した幹に気根が絡み合い、特異な風情を醸し出している。
　アコウの実の熟れる頃には、メジロやヒヨドリなどの野鳥が戯れ、初 夏を告げてくれるなど、季節の移ろいと共に変化を見せてくれる地域のシンボル的な存在である。

 

This akou, a type of strangler fig, grows beside the agricultural community’s garden, which faces the front garden of Sumuide Community Center (formerly a hippodrome).

This tree was planted to commemorate the completion of Sumuide Village, arranged in a grid formation (similar to a go game board). The crown stretches 170㎡ into an umbrella-like place, providing expansive leafy shade for locals to rest under.

Also, around April 15th of the lunar calendar is Abushibare Day, when Okinawa Kakuriki (Okinawan sumo) Festival is held, among other things, and the tree is also popular as the place of local festivity. The trunk, branched into five, with aerial roots twining together, creates a distinctive attraction.

When the akou’s fruit ripens, wild birds like the yellowtail and bulbul begin cavorting, heralding the beginning of summer. This exists as a local symbol showing transience, alongside the changing of seasons.
